transition matrix

Dear all,

I am trying to make a transition matrix on wealth/income mobility like the one attached. my data contains two series of wealth/income data from two different time periods. one being the son and one being the father. Is there anyone who knows how I can compute this transition matrix.

I can't offhand think of any reason why your question would entail Mata, so I'd suggest you repost it in the Stata portion of the forum, where it would be more relevant. Also, if you describe what form your data currently has, and what part of the problem here has you stuck, that would enable us better to answer your question. We don't know if you need help with the regression, the coding into quintiles, etc. Finally, do you literally want a Stata or Mata matrix, or do you just want a tabular display in the format shown in the article page you attached?

Also, I think you'd benefit from a look at the FAQ for this forum.
