  • Request FAQ: what subset of Latex is available here

There are extensions to Mathjax http://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/tex.html with Latex functionality not exposed on the forum, e.g. numbered equations. I request an FAQ on what is and is not available. This would save posters a lot of time spent on writing Latex that turns out not to work. A secondary request is to enable more Mathjax Latex extensions, if feasible.

    Thanks,

    Steve

As of right now, just the standard MathJax LaTeX functionality is available with no extensions. If certain extensions, such as the numbered equations one that you mention, are desired, and don't have conflicts with any other aspect of the forum software or characters that commonly occur in Stata output, they could definitely be added.

We do need to get information about how to use MathJax and what extensions (if any) are made available to it added to the Forum Software section of the FAQ. It's on the to-do list!

Thanks, Alan. After looking a little harder at the MathJax site, I think you just need a link to the list of supported commands and symbols at http://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/te...latex-commands, which links to a more detailed description at http://www.onemathematicalcat.org/Ma.../TeXSyntax.htm. It also appears that equation numbering can be turned on without adding an extension.. http://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/te...tion-numbering.
