  • Getting data from Twitter?

Does anyone know of a user-written command that can easily be used to grab data from Twitter?

I found the user-written command -insheetjson- from SSC, but now that Twitter requires OAuth in v1.1 of their API, the Twitter examples in the helpfile no longer work and I'm having difficulty figuring out how to send the authentication header.

Most examples using the Twitter API use something like PHP to grab the data, but since I don't know PHP, I'd rather avoid that if I can use Stata.

    Troy,

I know you posted this 18 months ago, but in case you are still interested there are several presentations at this year's Stata Conference on this topic. One or both of us will probably eventually make available a toolbox that can help with the OAuth problem. The presentations will be available on the Stata Conference website following the conference.

    Regards,
    Joe

      Dear Joe,

I just came across these posts and was wondering whether a solution is already available online?
I took a closer look at your presentation (provided here: http://www.stata.com/meeting/chicago16/) but failed to identify the steps necessary to make it work.
If I am not mistaken the stata help file has not been updated yet.

      Regards,
      Izumi

You can now import data from Twitter into Stata.
