Actually ... I think what I'm getting is the latest post in the threat. I will post this now and see if the previous one disappears in my RSS feed. I suspect it will, which is too bad - I am trying, and failing, to get New Statalist to mimic Old Statalist in this respect, i.e., having a mail folder that accumulates traffic and makes it easy for me to spot particular topics/contributors.

There is actually a notification system in the forum software that should be able to email you all posts in a given subforum or all posts by a particular member, so long as you 'subscribe' to that subforum or member. You can also subscribe to individual threads to be notified if there is a new post in that thread.

However, there is currently a bug which is preventing this from working. We're running version 5.1.0 of the forum software. Supposedly there is a fix coming for this in version 5.1.1, which release should be imminent. We'll install it when it is available, test it, and report on whether this feature is then available.

That would be great. Will the email include a hyperlink to the post or thread? That would give me the option to more-or-less mimic the functionality of Old Statalist - accumulate emails in a folder, scan the contributions from time to time, read the ones that look interesting, and reply to ones where I think I can contribute.

It should—that is currently what you get when you start a topic (i.e., the email notifications include a URL to the topic with goto=newpost).

Correct—I believe that is the way it is intended to work.

Once the email subscription mechanism is functional (it currently only works for topics you create), then you should be able to achieve what you want.

At the moment, the only RSS feeds provided by the software are (1) new topics, and (2) last post for each topic. Thus, if there are several posts in between feed updates, you won't get all of them in your RSS feed. At the moment, when you view (i.e., click on) the URLs in (2), you are taken to the top of the topic, which means that you have to scroll down each time to find where you left off. However, I'm hoping we can change the feed template to add goto=newpost to the URL, so that this will automatically take you to the last post you read under that topic. This should make following topics via RSS a lot easier.
