  • Searching Statalist

After this new forum is "the" Stata forum, if I do a search, will it also search the old Statalist, or will I have to search that separately.

No, the search results returned by searching the Forum do not currently include postings to the old Statalist, or vice versa. I don't know whether StataCorp has plans to implement such functionality in the future (they might). In the meantime, you can try Google, e.g.,
site:statalist.org/forums OR site:stata.com/statalist "nick cox" AND ("bad cop" OR "bad cops")
which currently returns Marcello's classic "Anonymous nonnies" post, but not his welcome message from yesterday (yet). This should work once the page(s) you are looking for have been indexed, unless the Forum has been configured to prevent Google from indexing individual posts. Alan would be the one to comment further on this.

Don's question is the first one that came to my mind, too. I think this needs to be made clear in the FAQ, e.g. to suggest that users search both this site and the old one for similar posts before starting a new one. In the longer term it would be fantastic if StataCorp could host old Statalist postings for reference purposes.
