Unfortunately, "Remember Me" still doesn't work for me. (I'm using Internet Explorer 9 on my workplace set-up -- a windows server-- in which the security options are set by the Group Options. However, I had thought that my current security settings would have allowed "Remember Me" to work.) I may be missing something, however.
It is not sure what you or others expect the function to do when complaining that "Remember me" does not work. For example, Kit Baum writes that his browser "still prompts me every single time for username and password, and ignores the 'remember me' checkbox."
Remember me allows a user to stay logged in instead of their session with the site automatically timing out after a period of time without activity.
"Remember me" does not allow you to return to the Statalist Forums when starting a new session of your browser without loggin in again but only stops the Forum software to log you off automatically after a certain time. Thus, a less ambiguous name of the function would be "no timing out" instead of "remember me".
In this context: I wonder why the Forum software does not allow my browser (Mozilla Firefox) to automatically fill in my user name and password as it is possible for other sites which allow that my browser saves my user name and password and inserts it automatically using only my master password. This would spare me typing in user name and the specific password each time.
Dirk: thanks for your informative response. It seems that I was indeed missing something! I agree that "Remember Me" is a poor label, though, and I suspect that I am not the only one who expected something else given this. Also I second your final question about auto fill-in. (At present, my username box offers a list of possible entries when I start typing, so at least I end up typing less.) Given this exchange, I now also wonder what 'works' for Don Spady.
Update with positive news. After my earlier comment (and reading other posts) this morning, I closed my browser without logging out from the Forum. Now, late afternoon, I opened the browser again and went to the Forum. I find that I am still logged in. So, I appear to be Remembered now.
