  • mark channel read?

In the "general" forum, there is a button to "mark this channel as read" which I find very useful; however, I don't see a similar button for the "using the forum" channel; should there be (and did I do something to lose it ) and if so how do I get it back; if there isn't anything, can one be added please?

I can't find this "mark channel read" button anywhere. If I could, what would it do? Mark every post in the forum as read? (What is a channel, anyway? Another word for forum?)

yes, channel appears to be the same as forum; and yes, it marks every post as read (there are a sizable number of posts that I don't want to read so I don't want them bolded)

That does sound useful. So, for those of you with the superhuman powers to see this button, where is it at? Maybe I am just looking in the wrong place.

As to the forums for discussing Stata ("General" and "Mata") the "mark as read"-button appears on top right of the "header" (next to "filter"):

However, there is no such button at the forums for learning to use the Forum software ("Using the Forum" and "Sandbox"):

Thanks. Maybe there is some sort of random assignment process going on. I see it for Mata and Sandbox but not the other two forums.

I see it only for General and Mata.
              You should:

              1. Read the FAQ carefully.

              2. "Say exactly what you typed and exactly what Stata typed (or did) in response. N.B. exactly!"

              3. Describe your dataset. Use list to list data when you are doing so. Use input to type in your own dataset fragment that others can experiment with.

              4. Use the advanced editing options to appropriately format quotes, data, code and Stata output. The advanced options can be toggled on/off using the A button in the top right corner of the text editor.

Strange, because for me it does not change since I recognized the buttons the first time. However, irregular behavior has been noticed earlier, see the topic started "Mark this channel as read" by Philip Jones.

I did some experiments and it seems that whether buttons are visible or not does not depend on whether all posts are already marked as read or not.
