  • Summing variables across time in Stata

Hello all. I'd like to estimate the sales equation below. The sales are sales of the Xbox 360 console, which are a function of the sum of games currently available (njt) and future releases (the summation term on the right), which are discounted at the rate of delta by consumers. The parameters I'm interested in estimating are B0, B1 and delta (the discount rate of future releases) in a NLS model. I have no idea how to handle the summation function in Stata, and was wondering if anyone could help me out with the code on this one. Thanks in advance!

Please use your real full name as asked for in the FAQ. Consider also using a better method for displaying equations. This forum can handle LaTeX syntax.
    You should:

    1. Read the FAQ carefully.

    2. "Say exactly what you typed and exactly what Stata typed (or did) in response. N.B. exactly!"

    3. Describe your dataset. Use list to list data when you are doing so. Use input to type in your own dataset fragment that others can experiment with.

    4. Use the advanced editing options to appropriately format quotes, data, code and Stata output. The advanced options can be toggled on/off using the A button in the top right corner of the text editor.

I think you will need to define your notation too.
