I have just upgraded to version 18. I have discovered a maddening feature of the text editor that didn't exist before. I'm wondering if this is a feature or a bug.

Here's the issue using a very simple example. Suppose I have the following text typed in the do file:

    twoway scatter x_dem y_dem
    twoway scatter x_dem y_dem
Suppose I want to change every occurrence of "dem" in the second line to "rep". In previous versions of Stata, I would select the second line and then use the dialogue box to change "dem" to "rep". This is how every other word processor I use works.

With the version 18 upgrade, if I select the second line and then use the dialogue box to change "dem" to "rep", it changes _all_ occurrences of "dem" to "rep" in the file, not just the selected text.

I have experimented with selecting the various check boxes in the dialogue box, and the problem persists.

    Is this a known issue?

I've checked and seem to have the latest update to Stata v 18. I would imagine that if this is a common issue, it would have been commented on elsewhere, but searching through the forum, I don't see anyone else raising the issue.

This does not happen with my installation of StataNow v18.5. Nor did it happen in my Stata v18.0 before v18.5 came out. So I think something is wrong with your installation.

As you have already checked you have the latest update, I suggest you restart your computer and see if that resolves the problem. If not, try uninstalling Stata and re-installing it followed by -update all, force-. If that doesn't solve the problem, I think you should contact Stata Technical Support.
