Error: "command _parse_absorb is unrecognized" when running xtreg, fe

As Title.

I'm running a relatively standard xtreg, fe command and get this error. Googling comes up with nothing atm literally zero stata results when searching "_parse_absorb" let alone anything with a solution.

The only clue I can give is that it is when adding the fe that the error occurs.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

xtreg_fe.ado calls _parse_absorb.ado. You'll find it in the base folder of your Stata folder (C: drive). make sure it's there. the "_" folder contains it on my computer.

I don't have that ado file. I am using Stata on a virtual machine, on a different machine it does exist so I can copy across, curious.
