I have a C plugin for Stata that may take a significant time (minutes) to complete. In this time the Stata interface freezes, including the activity indicator. Nor will it respond to the break key. While this doesn't bother me, it gives other users the impression that Stata is hanging.
Is there a way of briefly returning control to Stata, say every few iterations, to avoid this freezing (and also to allow interrupting the program)?
In general I understand this to be a consequence of the C plugin taking over execution, and thus blocking the usual updating of the Stata interface. I wonder if there is a way of structuring the plugin to occasionally return control to Stata for a brief moment.
