  • ICD 10 Update codes

    Hi,

I use ICD 10 check command to check and identify wrong codes. However, under codes not defined categories, it picked up some codes as not defined although they are found in WHO ICD 10 website. So, I am assuming there are regular updates occurring to the codes and ICD website. My question is, is it possible to update the ICD data in Stata server, if yes, how? And if not please take that into consideration as it very important especially with a lot of those who deal with it.

You should post this in the wishlist or send the request to Technical Services. There is a chance that the people at StataCorp will not see it here.

Also note you can search ICD-10 (WHO) codes here: https://icd.who.int/
For ICD-10-CM/PCS, I have found this site useful: https://www.icd10data.com/

Thanks for answering my questions. perhaps I did not clarify it very well. I have national data with over 200K obs. Each obs has an ICD-10 principal diagnosis code. what I want to do is to check if any of the codes are wrong according to the latest WHO version. The command
          Code:
          icd10 check
is very good to short the process of doing so, but there are some instances where it picked up correct ones and instances where it did not picked up the wrong ones (as shown in example above).

Yes, I understood your question. The WHO maintains the official (or foundational) version of ICD codes and other countries are free to adapt them for their own purposes. By highlighting your specific code of K58.9 not being valid under the WHO definition, it could flag for you that maybe you don’t have that version of those codes, and perhaps have the US or other country specific version. To put it a different way, what makes you think that K58.9 is valid under WHO? Are you sure you have WHO ICD codes?

if instead you don’t have WHO ICD codes and you want to know which don’t exist under the WHO definition, that’s valid to know I guess and your existing check code would suffice.
