APPEND & MERGE

I'm new to using STATA and I'm currently learning about different commands. I've been looking into the APPEND and MERGE commands. In order to execute these commands, I need to have two datasets uploaded simultaneously. I tried to do this but was unsuccessful. Please advise me on how to proceed.
