Asked to recover backup file every time I re-open a do-file [18.0 rev 30 Aug 2023]

Does this happen to anyone else?

Steps to replicate:

1. Open Stata.
2. Click "New do-file editor" to create a new do-file
3. Enter "***"
4. Save on local drive.
5. Close the do-file.
6. Notice that the swap file remains, despite politely closing the do-file within Stata.
7. Open the saved do-file.
8. See prompt "A backup file has been found [...] Would you like to recover the backup file or open the original file? [...]"

Expected behavior:

• The swap file is removed when the do-file is politely closed within Stata.

Yes, it’s an automatic backup feature that was introduced with Stata 18. You can go into the options in the Dofile editor if you wish to disable if, but this is expected behaviour when enabled.

It happens to me that the backup file is not removed when I am working on cloud drives (i.e. google drive or Dropbox).
