  • Advice on Stata Test for an internship

Hi Everyone! I am on Stata 17 and have a technical test coming up soon for an internship. I was wondering if anyone could share resources on where to brush up my Stata skills as it has been a while since I last used it. Common internship concepts that are in tests, and sample data sets which I could practise on, would be very helpful. Basically, anything you think could be useful for such a test. The organisation is JPAL South Asia, they work with a lot of RCT so primary large scale data usually.
Please let me know if you would like any other information about this.

    Thank you for your help!

Sorry, this is the first time I’ve heard of a technical test for Stata. You could consider along the company for general advice. Good luck though.

I’d revise by reading the first half or so of [U]. If that seems too difficult try the Getting Started volume for your OS. If neither of these is what you want look through Stata’s FAQs as examples of problems and solutions.

Or …. I don’t work for this company and if I did I wouldn’t tell you what was in the test. If I were advising on a test I would advise looking for how good you were at knowing where to find solutions rather than whether you remember lots of syntax. But I don’t knock the latter; it helps too.

Yeah it really depends on what kind of technical tests we're talking about. Presumably.......... they tell you at least a little of what will comprise it, because if I were being tested on Stata and the first thing they ask about is Stata's pharmacokinetics abilities..... I would be displeased, putting it politely. So, assuming you've knowledge of the methods and stuff they look for or regularly employ, I would tailor my studying to that in all honesty.

I see what you mean. I am not expecting the company or anyone to share exact questions on the test either. I was hoping to know what are the most common concepts and functions used in stata that I should absolutely know to prepare myself for this test. Something like that in my opinion could be basic editing and cleaning of data, summarising, or t-tests. The User manual and windows GSW seem like a good start. Thanks for that

            Yatharth:
a trivial test might be focused on -28 Commands everyone should know- entry, -User's guide-, Stata .pdf manual.

            Kind regards,
