  • Panel Data FE Regression Issue with repeated time variables

    Dear All,

I am having some troubles with running a fixed effects regression on Stata, as when I try to run it it simply states repeated time variables. However, the problem is that this is because for panel data I have multiple observations over many periods of time.
    Any advice?

If you have multiple observations of the same entities at the same time, then you don't have panel data, at least not at the level of those entities. Your description of your data does not provide enough information to work towards a resolution of your difficulty. Please post back with example data, using the -dataex- command, and also show the commands you have attempted, along with the response that you got from Stata. Be sure to show the commands and Stata responses exactly--do not edit anything as there is no such thing as a "minor" detail.

If you are running version 17, 16 or a fully updated version 15.1 or 14.2, -dataex- is already part of your official Stata installation. If not, run -ssc install dataex- to get it. Either way, run -help dataex- to read the simple instructions for using it. -dataex- will save you time; it is easier and quicker than typing out tables. It includes complete information about aspects of the data that are often critical to answering your question but cannot be seen from tabular displays or screenshots. It also makes it possible for those who want to help you to create a faithful representation of your example to try out their code, which in turn makes it more likely that their answer will actually work in your data.

      Camillo:
      welcome to this forum.
I agree with everything Clyde wrote.
The only thing that I would add is trying to -xtset- your dataset with -panelvar- only, keeping in mind that this fix comest at the cost of making time-series operator (such as lags and leads) unafeasible.
Eventually, please read (and act on) the FAQ to post more effectively. Thanks.
      Kind regards,
      Carlo

Fantastic- many thanks for now. For next time I will more specifically pose the question at hand.
