  • Problem with opening SPSS data file

    Hello,

My data file is in SPSS format and when I try to import it, I run into the error 'unable to parse file on disk'. I have tried another data set too and had the same problem. Does anyone know the solution?

    Thanks!

Don't know the solution unless you're willing to consider something like Stat/Transfer, but would your SPSS file happen to be compressed (have you tried the - zsav- option?), or in a portable (SPSS Export) format?

You might also have to play around with the encoding, I'm not sure.

I think that SPSS has different file formats for each operating system, too.

        Hi Statalisters,

I couldn't find a solution for importing .sps files but discovered that opening them in R works just fine - then can simply copy and paste into a .do!

        Kind regards,
        Hannah
