For a project I am to regress cash/assets on the gender ratio of the directors (among some other controls). The issue I have is that when I currently run the regression, it will run the regression on cash/assets on all directors, even if their tenure have expired. What I mean is that e.g. Director A (man) started 2014 Jan and ended 2015 Jan, and Director B (woman) started 2015 Jan until Jan 2016. Currently, if I run a regression on the whole period 2014-2016 the regression will not take into account that directors were not present during the whole period.
What I need to do is to show that the gender ratio is increasing over time and how that affects my dependent variable (cash/assets). I have all the start and end dates, gender etc for the directors.
I was thinking to per quarter or year create dummies indicating, per company, whether a given director was on the board that quarter/year and then based on their gender create a gender ratio per each period. I'm not sure this is the right way to go, and hence I'm asking here. Further, I am not totally sure about the code for this specific issue. Could someone please give me some advice?
