  • Event History Analysis - am I using the right method?

    Hello everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me to find the right method for my analysis.
For my master thesis, I would like to find out how taking over care for a household member affects the mental health of the caregiver and if there are differences between employed and unemployed people that take over care. For this I am using data from the 5th and 6th wave of SHARE.

My prof suggested to do a history event analysis, because it would be easier than doing a whole longitudinal analysis, and that the change from „no care“ to „taking over care for a household member“ needs to be my independent variable.
After doing some research about the method, I am not sure if EHA is the right way, as I only find examples where the event variable is the dependent variable (and also a binary variable). In my case, the number of depressive symptoms (from 1 to 10) needs to be my dependent variable and the event variable „taking over care“ (coded 0/1) is the independent variable. Is it possible or does it make sense to do an EHA with a quantitative dependent variable?

With help from the forum, I already generated an event variable that shows that the event „taking over care“ from wave 5 to wave 6 has occured, but I am not even sure if I can use it now.
Can someone please tell me if it is even possible to do a EHA with my variables and if not, what method would fit better?

    Thank you in advance
    Nanke
