  • Batch command shortcut on Windows?

I'm working cross-device and with a co-author who uses a Unix-based operating system. Thus, our Makefiles that run Stata in batch mode use different commands--namely, I need to specify the full path of the executable file on my Windows machine, but on my Linux machine or my coauthor's computer, batch mode is simply called with "stata". I've searched all over the internet for a way to specify a keyword or shortcut to enable batch mode on Windows. with a "stata" command, but I just can't find anything. Is there a way to do this?

Never mind, it turns out that, in order to find the answer, all I needed to do was give up on finding the answer. This process works: https://datacarpentry.org/stata-economics/setup.html

I think perhaps your actual question was how to add Stata to your local path. That is easily enough found online (and you have found one way if using a unix-like shell in Windows).

There is also a batch mode in which Stata runs "headless" -- without the GUI -- and that is explained helpfully in this FAQ. The switch in Windows is /b instead of -b for Unix.
