  • Learning and using Stata for visually impaired students

    Hi everyone,
I am a TA at a Quantitative Methods course. One of our students is visually impaired and we are trying to find tools and ways in which we can facilitate learning and using Stata for them.
Are there any readers, screen zoom tools, or anyting else you recommend or are aware of?

    Thank you!

I have found that students are often helped by being able to change the font, the font size and the colo[u]r scheme in particular windows.

This may seem obvious, but "That's so much better!" still rings pleasantly in my ears after I helped one student towards something more comfortable for them.

Under this heading, or a broader one, I would include finding graph choices that work well for both a user and anyone downstream of their work. My own preferences run to more use of

    open marker or point symbols

lighter colo[u]rs, including none at all

palettes that avoid red and green together

as compared with many Stata defaults.
