Using PSM approach, i want to construct a match sample between firms that carry goodwill (GW) at the beginning of the year and report a goodwill impairment (GWI) with firms in the same industry-year (two-digit SIC industry) that carry goodwill (at the beginning of the year) but do not report a goodwill impairment and the closest market-to-book (MTB). The MTB ratio between impairers and matched non-impairers to a maximum of 0.25 to allow meaningful comparisons between ‘Suspect’ firms and Control firms.
my dependent variable is CRASH
goodwill impairment avoidance variable is GWI
goodwill ratio is GW
control variables are, let say SIZE and PROF
