  • Defining relative days of week and time in study for panel patient data

    I'm working with a data set of BP recordings, taken by different patients at different times. The data set is organised with the variables patientcode, datetime, BP. Each patient's recordings start on a different date and they should have 4 recordings a day for the first week of every month. Before I can perform analysis, I need to identify on which day of the month each recording was made. I then wish to analyse if the first day of each patient's week is different to the rest of the week and if the SD of each week's recordings changes depending on the month in the study. To do this I need to define the variables timeinstudy, dayofpatientweek. Since each patient's week will have a different start date, how can i best define the variables in this panel data?

    I'm very new to stata so any advice or suggestions would be welcome! Thanks

        Day of the month is yielded by

        On what precisely is the first (second, ...) week in each month, see e.g. https://www.statalist.org/forums/for...econd-week-etc

        The answer there was written up in a note forthcoming in Stata Journal 22(1).
