  • Encode Removing 1st Row as Variable Name

    Hello everyone,

I've imported an Excel data set from Qualtrics and am attempting to analyze it. While importing I instructed Stata to treat Row 1 as the Variable Name. This works fine with the variables as they are. However, in order to analyze them, I need to encode the variables as they are strings. Once I do this, the 1st row is seen as an observation and not a variable name. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

You need to provide a data example of your dataset immediately following import excel. encode will take the data as is, so perhaps you just did not notice that some variable names were imported as observations in some columns. This can happen if there is a misalignment in the original Excel file.
