  • How to properly citing stata's manual and FAQ

    Hi,
I wonder to know how can I properly cite the below pdf as well as the Stata FAQ. For the FAQ, I have tried the below citation but could not find the year. Thanks for your help.
    Nader

    The Stata manual:
    https://www.stata.com/manuals/rmargins.pdf

    Stata FAQ:
    https://www.stata.com/support/faqs/s...th-panel-data/

The citation that I have tried (year is missing):
Sanchez, G.. How do I obtain bootstrapped standard errors with panel data?
    Stata FAQ. Available at https://www.stata.com/support/faqs/s...th-panel-data/

See here: https://www.stata.com/support/faqs/r...entation-faqs/ for general advice about citing documentation and FAQs.

The HTML source for the FAQ you linked contains the following information about the date: "November 2005; updated June 2013; minor revisions April 2015"

Thanks. I am still unable to find the proper citation for the pdf. It is unclear what is the Stata version for the reference manual (e.g., Stata 17 Base Reference Manual).

The link for margins on the Bookstore page for the Stata 17 Base Reference Manual (https://www.stata.com/bookstore/base-reference-manual/) points to the same PDF you posted (https://www.stata.com/manuals/rmargins.pdf), so presumably that specific PDF can safely be cited as version 17.

Many sources recommend citing the access date, say Accessed 11 July 2021, or however you cite daily dates, or however someone in authority prefers that you cite dates.

Here is another way to get a date for an FAQ

          .

Here are some generic guidelines for web citations:

            https://www.scribbr.com/apa-examples/website/

As a sidelight, I have several handouts on my web pages. A few years ago I got in the habit of including info at the beginning of handouts so that the author and source could be easily identified. Otherwise readers may have no idea where something came from. I would encourage anyone who puts materials on their web pages to do something similar. For example,

            https://www3.nd.edu/~rwilliam/xsoc73994/Logit01.pdf
            -------------------------------------------

In addition to all this, I understand that it is very important to correctly formulate citations in your research, and I advise you to go to the site https://edubirdie.com/citation/ama/cite-a-pdf/ where you will find useful information on your request, and it is about citing pdf documents. In addition, here you will find a citation generator that will help you cope with the assignment more easily.
