How can I import a .db file to stata, or .db file to excel then stata?

Hi everyone!

I was recently sent a database file from an organization. It is a .db file format and not .dbf. I want to view the data, but I currently cannot open it and am not familar with SQL.

Are there any ways I can 1) import directly to stata, or 2) import to excel so I can then import to stata?

Any information or potential options are appreciated. Thank you!

Perhaps you can ask them to send you the data in a format you can read/import? CSV/Excel files are usually pretty easy to export from databases.

I have emailed them requesting these files. However, I have not had the best luck from some agencies regarded these types of specialized requests. I am hoping this solves my problem.

I assume based on this response, there is no direct way to import to stata.

StatTransfer can handle lots of formats. You could get a trial (crippled) copy and see if it works. It it does, you can either buy stattransfer or try to find someone who will let you use their copy.

Hi. I apologize for the delay. I tried many of these options. Ultimately, most failed either due to the size of the file or limitations with access. I was ultimately able to open and convert the files with SQLite.
