  • Accounting Research suggestions!

Sorry this might be a little bit long post and not related to the forum at all. I do not know.
I am a freshman masters degree student that is taking Stata class in relation to interpreting accounting research papers for research purposes however we are not mainly learning Stata. It is more of learning simple commands to interpret some tables that the professor chose. Even, this semester was my first time to hear about Stata and I feel really really really lost.
For our final exam, our professor decided to make us choose a research paper and conduct a replication on our own. I am really intimidated and it feels like I am in the middle of the ocean without help. He did not even give directions to which paper we should be used. All what he asked us to do it to use both CRISP and COMPUSTAT together.
I do not know if this is the right place to ask but I would appreciate if somebody can guide me with anything. Or even if there is another website that can help me with this. I would be even thankful if somebody can suggest a certain Financial Accounting research paper that they know can fit a beginner like me.

I would really appreciate anyyyy help.

To replicate a published paper from scratch is not a reasonable request for a Master's course. I do not think that in accounting there is culture of sharing the code for published papers online.

I think the expression "nothing is too hard for a man who does not have to do it" might be explaining what is going on here -- your professor has never replicated a published paper, and therefore he/she incorrectly thinks that it is easy.

You and your classmates should organise, complain and demand that he/she comes up with some reasonable assessment, or alternatively, he/she should give you the title of a paper that he/she has successfully replicated and he/she has confirmed that replicating this paper is doable.

There can be a variety of opinions here but there are also facts about your assignment: we can't know more than you say, unless exceptionally your Professor is a member here.

But as a teacher if I ask students to choose a paper or a dataset, I expect them to choose a paper or a dataset, not to go online and ask for suggestions.

That may seem hard-hearted, but equally this is your assignment and questions about it should be asked within your institution. Please see #4 at https://www.statalist.org/forums/help#adviceextras which has some relevance here.

I am not asking anybody to actually do my assignment or anything like this. I was just asking cause I thought this is something normal and maybe I could meet somebody who can guide me like everybody else here on this forum asking for guidance with their codes and understanding about stata. I did not post my assignment!!.
