  • Stata Freezes & Requires Force Quit on Macbook

    Hi Stata Forum Folk,

I am running Stata 16.1 I/C on a 2019 Macbook Pro, but it freezes and becomes unresponsive any time I stop working on my laptop for a few minutes (and the Mac logs me out of my profile). I must force quit and restart Stata every time. I recently installed this version after my university subscription for Stata 16 SE ran out.

What can I do to solve this problem?

    Thank you,
    Ben

Considering the version has no restrictions, I gather you should e-mail Stata’s technical support for that matter.
    Best regards,

    Marcos

        Hi Ben and Marcos,
I'm sorry for the off-topic; I will try here since there are not many posts on this.

Since I am about to change my (Windows-based) laptop, I wondered what your experience with Stata on Mac and whether you would recommend it to others was. As a Windows user, I am afraid of these freezes, and I'd like to know whether shifting from Windows to Mac is worth it.

What Mac/iOS configuration and Stata do you have? How many observations do you usually have in your datasets? What packages/commands do you use? Does it crash (often)?

        Thanks for your time,
        Luigi

Luigi, please make a separate post instead of spamming the same message in multiple threads. Please also read the FAQ as to how to ask questions on the forum.

I'm afraid that your questions are not likely to yield very meaningful answers to you as everyone will have different hardware and needs from their statistical analyses. If you are facing crashing issues, it might be a good idea to contact Stata Technical Services to see if they can help.

Hi Leonardo, I "spammed" it in two threads. I realize that it is not the most appropriate way, but since there is no single post on this (i.e., Stata experience of iOS users), I tried in the two threads where I found iOS users.

I am not facing any crashes. I was just wondering whether and how iOS interact with the Stata interface.

I will not post anything more here; sorry for the disturbance.

Luigi, it's okay to post this as a new thread so it starts a new topic. There are Mac users here so I don't think they have problems, generally speaking, but maybe you have something more specific in mind.
