  • Stata 16 undo redo

    Hi all
I am sorry but I have a basic issue:
I just moved from a very old Stata version (Stata 11) to Stata16 in Mac.
I noted that in the dofile of Stata16 I do not have the same tabs such as (undo and redo). I do not know how to make these visible in the dofile at the top?!
    I appreciate your help
    Thanks

When I open the do-file editor in Stata 16 (Windows MP version, but I suspect that doesn't matter), I see at top of screen a list of words: "File Edit View Language Project Tools" and underneath that row of words is a set of pictograms for new blank do-file, open existing do-file, save etc etc. In that set are the signs for undo and redo. They are greyed out if you haven't done anything in the currently open file.

I see only in that line: open, save, print, find, show, zoom.
      No undo or redo!!
Is there a way to make them visible in this list?
I have just got the new version so I did not chanhe any settings.

OK, maybe things differ on a Mac. (I was referring to my default settings in Windows 10.) You need a Mac user to chip in.
Have you an open file in the do-file editor and made changes to it? (Note my last comment in #3.)

Yes Stephen, I actually wrote some lines and I still can not seee any redo or undo (not even greyed!).
I have also recently migrated to Mac (and the new Stata today) so I do not know where the issue is coming from. It is a bit frustrating.

Can not find any helpful information online. The Stata version I have now is Stata/SE16

Bundled with your Stata are the Getting Started volumes, one for Macintosh. (Look under pdf documentation.) I think that's intended to be the documentation at this level. I can't comment from experience; I've not used the Mac version except a long time ago watching someone else.

Thanks Nick. The Stata version was made available to me by the University, downloaded via self service in Mac.
Unfortunately, in this case, I am not sure how to get the Getting tarted documentation.

                Thanks Both.
I think I managed to do it now.
I had to go to "view" then "customize toolbar" and do this manually. It is interesting that these essential items were not made available in toolbar in advance.

I am not sure how to get the Getting Started documentation.
                  Option 1.
From the Stata Help menu you can choose PDF Documentation, then in the Acrobat Reader window that opens, click Getting Started in the Bookmarks list on the left of the Window. That will open Getting Started with Stata for Windows , but scroll down a page or two and there are links to all the PDFs, including Getting Started with Stata for Mac.

                  Option 2.
                  Type the command
                  Code:
                  help getting started
and in the Viewer window that opens, click [GSM] (which stands for Getting Started with Stata for Mac) to open the PDF documentation that in fact contains all the sections described in the help output.

                  Option 3.
The PDFs can all be found in /Applications/Stata/docs, the one you want is gsm.pdf.
