  • xtreg without fe or re

I am working with a panel data set and before running any results I have run the command as xtset . Now does xtreg command make any sense without fe or re at the end? Once I run xtreg y x1 x2 x3 without fe or re at the end, stata is producing results. But what is the meaning of that results? I believe this is neither fixed effect nor random effect results. Any suggestions ?

If you run -xtreg- without further specification, you get -re- by default. This is documented in the help file. Read -help xtreg-

      Subhasish:
      welcome to this forum.
As an aside to Clyde's helpful reply, you may want to check via -hausman- which specification (-fe- or -re-) fits your data better (in addition to -xtreg-, see -hausman- entry in Stata .pdf manual).
      Kind regards,
      Carlo
