  • Congratulations to Carlo Lazzaro: 10000 not out

Following a pleasant tradition introduced by the ever energetic Clyde Schechter let's congratulate and thank Carlo Lazzaro for passing 10000 posts today -- and we should underline that's just since the present forum started on 31 March 2014. He was a member of Statalist as an email-based listserve for some years before then. Perhaps he can remember when he started.

Active members of the community help out in different ways and that's more than fine. Carlo's distinctive contribution and sustained service certainly includes being a genial and supportive poster, welcoming many people new to Statalist, and gently reminding them of good practice based on the FAQ Advice. He also has his very own theme tunes, not least reminding people that repeated time values doesn't mean the end of the world if you have panel data.

He's also disconcerting in that he and I are approximately in the same time zone, but he always seems to get up two hours earlier than me.

I trust he's got many more contributions to make.

"not out" should register with people who follow various sports!

      Dear Nick and All,
many thanks for this very flattering congratulations (that I pretend are honestly deserved).
My first experience with the Statalist dates back to January 2007 when I subscribed: actually, I've learnt a lot from then on (and I'm still doing).
I really believe that Statalist was and Stataforum is a very precious source for learning not only Stata, but also statistics, thanks to people engaged in many different research fields.
I will try my best to keep on contributing to this forum.
As an aside, NIck is right about my waking up pretty early in the morning: the main reason is that we (my wife Marina, our daughter Claudia and myself) live with three cats and every morning, about 6.30 AM, the ask for their breakfast!
      Kind regards,
      Carlo

Congratulations Carlo Lazzaro. Chances are that anyone who has asked a question related to the analysis of panel data has received some invaluable advice from you! I personally have benefited from your knowledge over the years, and am grateful for your contributions.

            Thanks Andrew, really flattering.
However, you are more skilled than me in econometrics and Stata tricks (and I've benefitted from your knowledge many times)!
            Kind regards,
            Carlo

Thanks Carlo, but that's far from true! But, the good news is that I am learning!

                  Dear John,
Many thanks for your thoughtful words.
You've always been one of my favourite inspiring beacons as far as the quantitative side of the economic evaluation of health care programmes is concerned.
                  Kind regards,
                  Carlo

Besides showing technical competence, I have seen many occasions on which Carlo showed good humor in relation to postings to which many of the rest of us (at least me) could have barely restrained our frustration while responding. And I presume that Carlo does not enjoy the luxury of subtlety that's possible while working in one's native language!

                            Dear Carlo
At the risk of being impertinent by claiming to represent others (specifically the older cohort who are trying to keep up), thank you from a reader who is in no way a expert and so always appreciates your contribution and invariably learns a great deal. Your generosity and gentleness is appreciated.
Best wishes and congratulations - and may you continue to contribute well into the future.
                            Laurence

                              Dear All,
Thanks a lot for your kind messages.
I still benfit a lot from other posters' queries, as their issues were mine in the past or could become so in the future.
In addition to the Stata and statistical skillfullness that this very valuable forum steadily conveys, I do appreciate the kind manners and tones I was corrected in the past when admittedly off target in replying or limping in my statistical knowledge.
It is also worth mentioning that some contributors, whose helpful advice cannot be received outside Stata forum, are worldwide acknowledged experts in their research fields.
Eventually, Mike is right: since English is not my mother-tongue (and the mischievous comment can be: we see it!! ), this forum is an endless source of learning in this respect, too.
I'm always impressed with the small number of words that native English speakers use in writing, just focusing on the core of the matter.
                              Kind regards,
                              Carlo
