  • Binary Mediation

    Dear Statalists,

My Stata 14 doesn't recognize the command binary_mediation. I typed findit binary_mediation and nothing was found. Can you help me out?

    Thanks!

Welcome to state a list. You did not get a quick answer. You will increase the chances of a useful answer by following the FAQ on asking questions – provide Stata code in code delimiters, readable Stata output, and sample data using dataex.

If you done any programming, you would know that you cannot just throw out what you think should be a command and then decide it's not there because it doesn't come up.

    What is wrong with
    net describe mediation, from(http://fmwww.bc.edu/RePEc/bocode/m)
    or
    net describe paramed, from(http://fmwww.bc.edu/RePEc/bocode/p)
    ?

    or
https://www.stata.com/statalist/arch.../msg00017.html which mentions a program khb?

      Phil Bromiley -

I expect that a web search for "binary mediation" brought Lucia Barros to the reference to the binary_mediation command in Statalist archive post linked to below, where the reader is instructed to use the command findit binary_mediation to locate it for installation.

      https://www.stata.com/statalist/arch.../msg00625.html

A few moments ago I found a page at UCLA's IDRE with a binary_mediation link, but clicking on the link brought me to a "page not found" response, and my browser history does not return me to the page with the broken link.

      Looking around IDRE, I find
      Code:
      https://stats.idre.ucla.edu/stata/faq/how-can-i-do-moderated-mediation-in-stata/
      https://stats.idre.ucla.edu/stata/faq/how-can-i-do-moderated-mediation-with-a-categorical-moderator-in-stata/
which are focused on using Stata's SEM/GSEM commands to produce the desired analyses. I suspect that binary_mediation command has been withdrawn in favor of the approaches that use commands available in Stata.

For those who still want to use the binary_mediation ado file from UCLA, I have made that available at #3 in this post.
