  • Generating simple summary statistics tables

Hello - I would like to do something that should be relatively simple: generate a table of summary statistics with a combination of means and sd's (continuous vars) and percentages (categorical vars). I have several tables that need to be generated that I've been doing by hand which is very inefficient after you find a mistake and have to do them all again! However, after going through tabstat, esttab and table functions, I cannot seem to do this. "table" generates frequencies, and "tabstat", means, but how do I do both in one table, with only the statistics I want? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

you do not provide sufficient info for a full answer but my guess is that one of the following user-written commands will do what you want; for each, use -search- to find and download instructions:

    table1
    table1_mc
    basetable
    sumtable
    partchart
    summtab
    baselinetable

and there may be others also

Thanks, Rich. I've tried table1, but not the others. I will look at each of these. I've searched Stata and Statalist for exporting/making tables, but so far what I've found isn't appropriate, and it's been a bit overwhelming.
