Is the Stata Function Interface module available outside of Stata?

I see that within Stata I can write Python code that imports and uses the sfi module. I would like to interact with Stata in pure Python scripts outside of Stata. Is that possible, and is the sfi module available to install? I did not find it in pip. Or is the module limited to use within Stata?
