  • Analysts' EPS estimations

    Hi,

I am currently looking at analysts EPS estimates and the accuracy of them between Q1 2017 and Q1 2018. I have a number of analysts covering numerous stocks. What command would I type if I want to observe analysts codes for stocks that they have estimated on for the last estimate in the first quarter of both years and compare that accuracy then. I am comparing the last Q1 estimates for each analyst so I want an analyst covering one stock that is the last observation for an EPS estimate of that stock in Q1 2017 and 2018. I have already generated my forecast accuracy variable from Actual EPS - EPS estimate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please read the forum FAQ for excellent advice on how to post questions so as to maximize your chances of a timely and helpful response.

    In particular:

    1. Don't use abbreviations or jargon that would not be universally understood by people with a college education. This is a multi-disciplinary international forum. What is everyday talk for you may be utterly meaningless to others who are, nevertheless, well situated to help you with your statistical problem.

    2. Code must always be tailored to the data it will be applied to, and there are no unimportant details. So descriptions of data are insufficient for getting help with code. There are many substantially different data organizations that are all compatible with your description in #1 but would require completely different solutions. But even the best narrative descriptions of data ultimately are insufficient. You need to show actual example data. And the best way to do that is with the -dataex- command. FAQ #12 explains how to get the -dataex- command if you don't already have it. (If you are running Stata versions 15.1 or 14.2, fully updated, you already have it.)

    3. Finally, if what you want to calculate takes more than a couple of sentences to state (as in your case) it is usually best to also show a hand-worked example of the calculation that makes it clear exactly what you want to do.

      Hi Charlie,

Even though I'm in your field I'm a bit struggling in understanding what you want to achieve. Please follow Clyde's suggestions and look at the FAQ. Once you post something clearer and possibly detailed you'll probably get the answer you're looking for.
