Using Merged Dataset, One Deletion of Missings in One Variable Impacts the Number of Observations in Another Variable Without Doing Anything

Hi, all:

In my merged dataset, I keep noticing that when I remove the missing observations from one variable that impacts the other variable (making them the same) without doing anything to the other variable. Can someone please tell me what the problem could be?
