Propensity matching string variables (ICD-10 codes)

When I use psmatch2 or teffects psmatch commands for PS matching and use variables indicating diagnoses or procedures coded as string ICD-10 codes I get an error.
Is there a way to propensity match by string variables like ICD-10 codes?
