  • exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM)

    To the List:

Is there a user-written package for using exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) as an alternative to CFA in Stata? I'm attaching an article here which explains the justification for and limitations of ESEM. An important advantage of ESEM over CFA is that ESEM permits models where items load on more than one factor.

p.s. I posted on this once before, but didn't get any responses. Thought it wouldn't hurt to try again.

      Dear Eric,

Thank you for this! I will look closely at it. First thoughts: could be what I had in mind, but I'm not sure. I'm still trying to get my head around these new proposed alternatives to CFA. But in the article I attached in my original post (see above, Marsh et al. 2014) it seems as if there is some distinction to be made between exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM), and ESEM-within-CFA, which seems closer to what the UCLA team is laying out for Stata in the link you provided.

I will keep looking into this, but would also be grateful for any further insights you might have, or from other folks from the list.

      Ethan

Has there been any development for support of ESEM in stata 17?
