      *MERGING DATA FILES*
      . use `module b', clear

      . merge 1:1 hhid using `module c'
      variable hhid not found
      r(111);

      end of do-file

      r(111);

      this is the error it is showing

        The message means exactly what it says. One of the two data sets does not have a variable named hhid. I suggest you -des hhid- in each of the data sets to discover which it is. If it should contain hhid, then something went wrong when you created that data set and you will have to review how it was done and fix that problem (and any others that may turn up in the process). If it isn't supposed to contain a variable named hhid, then you are misguided in attempting to use hhid as the link variable in your -merge- command. In that case, you will have to rethink what you are trying to do with this data. Perhaps there is some other variable common to both data sets that is the correct link. Or perhaps the data sets should not be -merge-d at all: perhaps they need to be combined using -append-. Or perhaps it is misguided to combine them in any way at all.

        Given no information about the data sets or what you are trying to accomplish, I can offer only the above generic advice.
