I think that countmatch (SSC) is probably a roundabout way of merging without merge. If it is useful, I am happy about that.

We should probably document some of my foibles such as

0, Wanting Stata to be spelled correctly.

    1. Not being good at merges (but getting better).

    2. Disliking rejection of outliers on the grounds that they are awkward.

    3. Disliking Winsorizing as routine (despite being the author of winsor).

    4. Thinking testing for normality over-sold and s over-practised.

    5. Thinking Box-Cox oversold (good name, though).

    There must be more.

          Yes, congratulations Nick.
I'm surprised this didn't reveal another level of membership – grand master? Maybe that's 100,000 posts.

Tim: Thanks. On present rates that will be roughly in 2042, so possibly not!

I was thinking the other day:
                (1) what else this guy does? I mean any hobby?
                (2) He has not asked a single question, what is the source of his knowledge
                (3) Why he loves Stata so much, and not its daughter Mata that much? (where is the icon for simely)
                (4) Where does he get that much inspiration?
Nick! you are simply great. The above questions are just random thoughts.
                Regards

Attaullah: Interesting questions. I wish I knew all the answers. The best way to find out is to attend a users' meeting that I do, which I know is not easy for many depending on where they work. (Another good reason for Statalist.)

But there is no truth in any idea that I don't love Mata.

Once in a while, I start suspecting "Nick Cox" may just be the avatar of an artificial intelligence, sort of machine learning.

The cornucopia of books, do-files, chief-participations in the SJ plus the humongous amount of insightful replies in the Stata Forum might well be a disguise to keep it secret, who knows.

Weird things come to my mind, such as those when scholars argued that Shakespeare's works were actually Bacon's.

It is tough to get rid of this feeling, given the evidences...

To be absolutely sure that "it" is a human being, I'm thinking about attending the next Stata Meeting.

A pity he wasn't in Brazil last December, for the launching of the first one in the country.

I am a big deal in football, despite finding it unbearably tedious to watch for more than about 10 seconds:

I don't want to seem ungracious, but perhaps I can be the one to thank all once more very warmly for their good wishes and call an end to this thread for the sake of all those who in turn might find it tedious or incomprehensible.

                      Back to answering questions!
