Merging I/B/E/S Guidance Detail History with CRSP/Compustat Merged Security Daily

Hello,

Im having trouble to find an appropriate identifier to merge I/B/E/S Guidance Detail History with CRSP/Compustat Merged Security Daily. For my thesis research, I have to merge the following 4 datasets:
- I/B/E/S Guidance Detail History
- CRSP/Compustat Merged Security Daily
- CRSP/Compustat Merged Fundamentals Annual
- Compustat Execucomp Annual Compensation

Except for the first dataset, the other 3 datasets have CUSIP as common identifier. Generally, for the I/B/E/S datasets also have CUSIPs. However, the I/B/E/S dataset I need (Guidance --> Detail History) only the I/B/E/S Ticker is available. My first step is try to merge the I/B/E/S Guidance Detail History with CRSP/Compustat Merged Security Daily. Until now, I can not find an identifier to merge these two datasets in STATA. Have someone any idea how to merge these datasets with a common identifier?

Hi Guy,

This is not really a Stata (note lower case) question. CRSP, Compustat, and presumably IBES have different identifiers. Moreover, those identifiers come in different flavors: i.e. the current permno (the CRSP identifier) is not necessarily the same as the historical permno. Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) gives some advice on merging IBES with Compustat here; that page (accessible only if you have a WRDS account) links to some SAS code which may help you figure out what to do in Stata.
