  • Potential years of life lost vs Years of Life Lost in stata

    Dear listers.

I have been playing around whith the -findit- lifetabl written by Carlos Ramalheira, and find this a very interesting tool.
It gives me the remaining life expectancy at age x, witch is a good way to look at life expectancy.

The program also gives an option to calculate potential years of life lost due to specific causes of death.
I have talked to a statestician, that work in R, who suggests calculating the cause specific years of life lost.

Does anyone know of a stata program that can do this, there are some programs for R available.

    best
    Lars

    Lars,

I have been trying to find a suitable command in Stata 14 for calculating potential years of life lost and came across your post. I cannot seem to find -lifetabl- anywhere for download. -findit lifetabl- in Stata 14 offers no results. Do you have a link for -lifetabl-? Or, are you away of a new command that can calculate years of potential life lost due to specific causes of death?

I have read the documentation for -ltable- and am not sure that will do the trick.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    - Jason

I'm not sure if this will meet your needs, but
      Code:
      net install st0202_1.pkg
will install, among other commands, stplost, which uses pseudo-observations to estimate the cause-specific lost-lifetime function.

Pseudo-observations are explained in this 2010 Stata Journal article and the stplost command is described in this 2015 article.
