Since installing Windows 10 I can't copy Stata graphics and paste into Word directly. I can save as a pdf then paste but that is cumbersome. Any suggestions?
If you're working on Windows, you would be best served by saving the files as an EMF or WMF type. MS seems to hate every platform independent technology and created their own platform dependent vector graphics formats (Enhanced Meta File and Windows Meta File). Unlike copying/pasting into the word document, which results in immediate distortion if the image is resized, the EMF and WMF formats allow you to scale the image as you see fit without worrying about any change or loss in resolution. Unfortunately, if you need to share the file with anyone not using Windows they wouldn't have a direct way to view the image and would need to use a tool like Inkscape to try converting the file to a more *nix friendly format.
Export to EMF is not perfect. I don't have a reproducible example right now but I have had cases where elements of a graph where missing in the EMF. I don't know if this is a Windows or Stata problem. The same graph could always be saved as a PNG without any missing elements. Another option is export to EPS. An EPS added to a Word document via Insert - Picture may not look good on screen (for example, text may be pixelated) but it should look fine when printed.
Coming back to Ian's question, how exactly do you copy and paste? Could you please describe each step? I also don't understand what you mean by "save as a pdf then paste".
