Hmm, not too sure about your options. The ado file on http://fmwww.bc.edu/RePEc/bocode/u/ does say it works on 32 bit only. Hope someone else has an idea if and where such a version exists

Mark does not describe which tools he is using for looking, but I would like to suggest using a search engine. There are many in the Internet, and they use different algorithms and technologies to get to the content you are looking. Some of the popular ones are Google, Yahoo, Bing, and others.

What else can an author of a program do for the user beyond ranking #1 in all of the search engines for the exact same query the user has typed???

Sergiy, while we are on the subject, is there any reason you haven't officially released the latest version of usespss on SSC? I haven't tested it extensively but whenever I have tried it it seems to work fine.

Thanks for your replies. Before my original post, I did attempt various combinations on Google 64 bit beta version of usespss, usespss stata 13, install usespss stata, usespss beta but no search has so far led to anything I can use to read SPSS files directly into STATA 13.

Also prior to posting I did try :

http://radyakin.org/transfer/usespss/beta/ either
1) is not a valid URL, or
2) could not be contacted, or
3) is not a Stata download site (has no stata.toc file).

Yeah, the syntax was actually just a slightly different way of going about the same procedure, i realize.

Just now, I deleted the package and did the smae thing though:

. net install usespss, from(http://radyakin.org/transfer/usespss/beta/)
checking usespss consistency and verifying not already installed...
installing into c:\ado\plus\...
installation complete.

Wont help you immediately but at least you know it isnt the site's issue

Mark, do you work for some place that has high level security? You may need to get your IT people to help you out. I gave a talk at a US government agency a few months back and I was amazed that I couldn't even get Stata's webuse command to work. The place was super locked down. Something like that would drive me crazy.

Thanks for these replies. I'm not aware of any high level security. I regularly download work related stuff and have not encountered problems before. I recall I came across other posts describing a similar issue:

Dear all, I have raised this with tech support. Please note I can't try on my home machine as it is not 64-bit. This is the reply I had from our tech guy:

"Dear Mark
This call 214451 has been referred back to you requesting further information.
Call Summary: - Installation of Software
Details of information requested: - I have tried the URL http://radyakin.org/transfer/usespss/beta/ from my personal PC at home on my personal broadband and this web site does not wok. This can only mean the website radyakin.org has issue. Please come back to me if you think this is not the case."

If I browse to the website I get a 403 error, but installation using above mentioned command still works. Not the website's issue.

Dear Mark,

please help your tech guy by putting more attention that he only needs to type one command in Stata that installs the software. And not do any fancy staff with his browser or other tools. The error code corresponds to the nature of his error: "permission is denied", since he is querying the wrong resource.
