log transformation reduces the number of observations

my data suffers from abnormal outliers, as such i decided to transform it into log form to reduce the impact of outliers. but every time i transform it into log form, the number of total observations is reduced. what can be the possible reasons for this?

That said, beware of logging values which are negative in their original metric...
